View Video Tribute Willard Eugene "Gene" Flatt, 74, retired skilled trades machine repairman for General Motors Corporation, died Thursday, July 7, 2011 at his residence in the Culleoka Community. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Cookeville Funeral Home in Cookeville with Rev. Johnny Fox officiating. Burial will follow in Flatt Cemetery in Jackson County. The family will visit with friends Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols in Columbia. The Jackson County native was the son of the late Martin Flatt and Ruby Mae Rogers Flatt and a graduate of Jackson County High School. An avid golfer, Mr. Flatt played a round of golf Wednesday with his fellow "Rabbit-Chasers" at Stoneybrook Golf Club and ended the day pursuing his other special activity by bowling several games at Galaxy Lanes. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Joyce Hensley Flatt; a son, Gary (Lisa) Flatt of Culleoka; grandsons, Garrett Flatt, Jacob Flatt, Cole Flatt, and Luke Flatt; niece, Donna Flatt Hensley and nephew, Kenneth Flatt. He was preceded in death by a brother, James Flatt. Active pallbearers are Mike Ransom, Danny Ransom, Ron Ransom, Derek Ransom, Michael Ransom, Jr., and C. D. Robinson.
