Willard Temes

October 23, 1925 — July 20, 2017

The family of Willard Temes wishes to announce his passing on July 20, 2017 at Alive Hospice in Nashville from injuries sustained in an automobile accident. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Pastors Lawrence Jackson and E. C. McKinley officiating. Burial will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Saturday from 4:00 - 7:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born October 24, 1925, in Florence, Alabama, he was the son of the late Thomas Lee Temes and the late Mary Reagan Temes. Mr. Temes served in the U. S. Army, 2nd Infantry Division 38th R.C.T., and retired from Union Carbide after thirty-eight years of service. He was a member of The Church of God of Prophecy, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19, American Federation of Musicians, and was a well-known musician. Willard loved his family, his church, music, and growing his garden. Most importantly, he loved God. Willard was one of the last of the "greatest generation" - loyal to family and patriotic to country, self-sacrificing & hardworking. He bequeaths these qualities to all his surviving family members, and will be greatly missed by all who love him. Survivors include his wife of sixty-eight years, Elizabeth Lindsey Temes; and four children, David (Tracy) Temes, Michael (Marcy) Temes, Penelope (Neil, deceased) Kellman, and Valerie (Mark) Stinnett. Other loving family includes grandsons, Mike Temes, Travis Temes, Zachary Temes, Ryan Parks, Joseph Kellman, Ivan Kellman, Jameson Stinnett, Jordan Stinnett, Payton Stinnett, Troy Holcomb, and one deceased grandson, Colby Glenn Temes. Great grandsons include Kodi Temes, Zach Temes, Bradley (deceased) Temes, Stratton Kellman, Stellan Kellman, Daniel Holcomb; two great granddaughters, London Rhys Kellman and Lindsey Martin; and great great granddaughters, baby Mattie Temes and Anniston Martin. He was preceded in death by baby Thomas Temes; brothers, G. W. Temes, James Lee Temes, J. C. Temes, Buddy Temes, Bobby Temes; and one sister, Lavinia Green. His grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Mark Hardy, Billy Ray King, Charles Clark, and all local close friends who played music with him. The family wishes to thank Maury County first responders, Vanderbilt trauma team, and Alive Hospice of Nashville.
