William Allen "Buddy" Harris

View Funeral Webcast William Allen “Buddy” Harris, age 87, passed away October 5, 2022 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Buddy was born February 21, 1935 in Maury County, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his mother, Pellie Mae Erwin Harris; father, James Lee Harris; and brothers, Bobby Harris and Andy Harris; and sisters, Carolyn Sue Harris Bowens and Margaret Harris. He is survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Carolyn Willeford Harris of Columbia, as well as 2 children, Sheila (Bobby) Hines, Billy (Tara) Harris; 6 grandchildren, Lena (Cain) Hall, Katy Miller, Megan (Shane) Davis, Nathan (Caitlin) Hines, Tessa Harris and Tye Harris; and 9 great-grandchildren, Grant, Annie, Clara, Avery, Beckett, Birdie, Josie, Hutton and Finley. Buddy is also survived by his brother, Clyde (Linda) Harris; and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. Buddy was a member of Bigbyville United Methodist church all his life and loved to talk about how he went to Bigbyville Church with his grandfather in a buggy. Buddy served his country as a member of the United States Army from 1958-1960. He worked at Monsanto for over 30 years and loved to stay in touch with his co-workers. Buddy loved talking to people at the Farmer’s Market, and many will remember him for his decorated pumpkins that he would pass out to children at local schools with Children’s Dental Associates. He loved two-stepping and dancing to country and bluegrass music. Buddy was best known for his love for “The Barn,” and he loved hosting events there. Buddy had a generous heart, and he loved his family more than anything. Arrangements will be handled by Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be on Saturday, October 8th from 1 – 3 p.m. at Bigbyville United Methodist Church and the service will begin at 3 p.m. Reverend Jim Gardner and Enoch George will officiate the service. Burial will follow at Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. Pallbearers will be Freddie Ring, David Hobbs, Anthony Perez, Mike Harris, Tim Harris, Brad Harris, Kenneth Willieford, and Bobby Lee Harris. Honorary pallbearers include Mike McDonald, Joe Purcell, J.B. West, Roy Cothron, Buddy Martin, Ned Pollard, Larry Venable, Tommy Carpenter, Elton Sisk, and retired employees of Monsanto Chemical Company The family would like to extend a special thank you to the dedicated staff at Caris Healthcare who provided excellent care to Buddy in the months leading up to his passing.
