William Douglas "Doug" Chumbley, 64, farmer and resident of Daimwood Road, died Sunday, September 3, 2006 at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. John Rushing officiating. The family will visit with friends Tuesday from 12:00 to 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Burial will be in Morton Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late William Earl Chumbley and Nellie Ruth Liggett Chumbley Blalock. He was a 1960 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He served in the U. S. Army during the Viet Nam era, including a tour of duty in Okinawa, Japan. Mr. Chumbley loved fishing, hunting, trapping, and was an avid dirt-track racer. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Prince Chumbley of Columbia; a daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Chris Rushing of Columbia; a son and daughter-in-law, Michael and Amber Chumbley of Columbia; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Diane and Buddy Wiles and Charlotte and John Zajac, all of Lewisburg; four grandchildren, Joseph Rushing, Caroline Rushing, Ellie Rushing, Kaitlyn Chumbley, all of Columbia; several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers are Pat McCandless, Robert McCormick, John Hopper, Billy Davidson, Johnny Prince, and William Dale.
