William Clarence "Bill" Compton

View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast William Clarence “Bill” Compton, 81, retired employee of TVA and resident of Lewisburg, died Saturday, April 4, 2021 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral service will be conducted Thursday at 12:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Russ Adcox officiating. Burial will follow in Lasting Hope Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 P.M. – 8:00 P.M. concluding with a Masonic service at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. Born November 17, 1939 in Tazewell County, Virginia, he was the son of the late Clarance “Charlie” Compton and the late Virginia Marshall Lee. On November 24, 1966, he married Katherine Hutcherson Compton who preceded him in death February 11, 1991. Mr. Compton served in the United States Army. He loved riding his Harley, was a member of the I.B.E.W and a 33rd Degree Mason in Columbia Lodge #31. Survivors include his sons, Keith Compton of Lewisburg; Daryl (Melinda) Compton of Lewisburg; sisters, Jackie Primm of Columbia; Faye Jordan of Columbia; grandchildren, Shane Moody, Kenneth (Danielle) Compton, Damien Compton; and several great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his sister, Margaret (Clyde) Matney of Tazewell, Virginia; brothers, Bob Compton; Lonnie Compton; step sons, Vernon Howard and Ronnie Howard. Active pallbearers will be Lonnie Compton, Jr., Tommy Carrington, Harold “JR” Yocom, Kenneth Compton, P.J. Allen, and Howard Hight. Honorary pallbearers include Kendall Jordan, Darius Jordan, and Jimmy Runions.
