William E. Clark, 85, retired manager of the Public Works Department for the City of Macon, Georgia, died Thursday, October 25, 2007 in Macon. Graveside services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Rose Hill Cemetery. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. Mr. Clark served in the U. S. Army Parachute Infantry Regiment during World War II. He was attached to the famed Red Devils, 82nd All-American Airborne Division, jumped into Normandy on D-Day, and spent 11 months as a prisoner of war. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Eskew Clark, former Maury County resident; and a son, Wiliam David Clark. Survivors include two sons, Marshall E. Clark of Round Oak, Georgia, Danny Clark of Cochran, Georgia, and Wallace Clark of Wilmington, North Carolina; two grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two nieces, Nancy Eskew Pennington and Sharon Eskew Gibbs of Columbia.
