William George Coran, 85, retired steam-fitter and welder, and resident of Leiper's Creek Road in the Williamsport Community, died Saturday, January 24, 2009 at Signature Health Care. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Wattengel Funeral Home in North Tonawanda, New York at a later date.Oakes & Nichols Funeral Directors are in charge of local arrangements. Born in Clarksburg, West Virginia, he was the son of the late Ernest Russell Coran and Mary Roberta McCray Coran. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II,saw action in the Battle of the Bulge and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars, Veterans of the Battle of the Bulge, Local #22 Steam-fitters & Plumbers Union in Orchard Park, New York, and Water Valley Community Club. Survivors include his wife, Esther Jane Kartyas Coran of Columbia; daughters, Candace Kohl, Pamela (David) Der, Laurie (Mark) Reber; sons, David (Gerri) Coran, Patrick Coran, Timothy (Sue) Coran, Terry Coran, Alan Coran, Kevin (Theresa) Coran; eighteen grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; several brothers and sisters and in-laws.
