View Funeral Webcast William Haggard "Bill" Crowder, 84, retired owner-operator of B & C Tire Service, died Wednesday, June 16, 2010 at Maury Regional Medical Center. A funeral mass will be conducted Saturday at 10:00 a.m. at St. Catherine Catholic Church with Father Davis Chackaleckel officiating. Burial will follow in Polk Memorial Gardens with military honors at graveside provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The Lawrence County native was the son of the late William Haggard Crowder and Alberta George Crowder. He spent his earliest years in Birmingham, Alabama and later in Auburn, Alabama where he graduated from Lee County High School. At the outbreak of World War II, he entered military service and served in the South Pacific with the U. S. Marine Corps from 1944-1946. Following military service, he entered Auburn University where he graduated with a degree in Business Administration. Mr. Crowder was a long-time communicant of St. Catherine Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife of 60 years, Lucile Hoffman "Toots" Crowder of Columbia; daughter, Cile Hoffman Crowder of Nashville; son, William George Crowder of Senoia, Georgia; brother, Wilson Hart Crowder of Mobile, Alabama; uncle, Dr. C. D. George of Columbia; aunts, Ellen Crowder Roe, Edna Crowder of Lawrenceburg, and Jeanette Laney of Birmingham, Alabama; a niece, nephew, and numerous cousins.
