Bill Glidden, 85, died Saturday, January 25, 2025, at his residence in Columbia.
Bill was born in New Ulm, Minnesota, to the late Max Keith Glidden and Fern Bertha Erbes Glidden. Bill lived life on his own terms. He began his life-long love of horses at the age of 17. Later, he became involved in the cowboy era in 1965 when he worked at Universal Studios in Los Angeles, California, as an actor and stunt rider. While working on "The Virginian" television show, he was a stunt double for Doug McClure and Brian Keith. He participated in numerous "Classic Images" productions on major battles of the Civil War as well as the A&E television production of "America's Greatest Castles" on horse racing in Nashville. More recently, he provided horses and wagons as well as stunts for the popular "Sleepy Hollow" television series.
Bill was an avid photographer both in Los Angeles and Florence, Alabama, where he retired as Chief Photographer for the Florence Times. Bill enjoyed making historical reproductions saddles. He was a host of "Inside Maury/Middle Tennessee" radio talk show on Friday mornings. He taught many children and adults the art of riding and horsemanship as well as driving of both single and team horses. He was an active member of Thousand Hills Cowboy Church in Etheridge, Tennessee.
He is survived by his wife, Deborah Glidden; children Terry Glidden, Troy Glidden, Amber (Rob Smith), Heather (Shane) Hughes, James Rossin, Biff (Jenny) Petty; eleven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren; brother Bruce (Lavonne) Glidden; and sister Jane (Paul) Petty.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother John Glidden.
