View Funeral Webcast William Hardy Loyd, 79, longtime educator, mentor, and coach, died Thursday, April 18, 2019, at his residence in Santa Fe, Tennessee. Funeral services for Mr. Loyd will be conducted Tuesday at 1:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Santa Fe Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Monday from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Born May 22, 1939, in Waynesboro, Tennessee, Mr. Loyd was the son of the late Hardy N. Loyd and Reva Lee Loyd. He was a 1957 graduate of Lawrence County High School. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Tennessee Tech University and his master’s degree from MTSU. Mr. Loyd began his teaching and basketball coaching career at Martin High School in 1961, moving on to teach and coach at Columbia Central High School in 1964. Mr. Loyd became principal of Columbia Central High School in 1974, continuing in that role until his retirement in 1990. During his tenure at CHS, he served on the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association Board of Control for 15 years, including four years as president. He later came out of retirement to act as headmaster of Zion Christian Academy. Mr. Loyd was a member of Belmont Church in Nashville. A devoted family man, Mr. Loyd is survived by his wife of 59 years, Dolly Franks Loyd; daughters Libby Loyd of Phoenix, AZ, Cindy Loyd (Nick) Fountotos of Scottsdale, AZ, and Julie Loyd of Nashville, TN; granddaughter Peri Loyd Fountotos; brother Dr. Allan (Linda) Loyd of Lawrenceburg; and several nieces and nephews. Active pallbearers will include Charlie Loyd, Sam Loyd, Chris Sandrell, Theodore Lonneman, Abraham Lonneman, and Leland Lonneman. Honorary pallbearers include Merle Dixon; Mr. Loyd’s former basketball players and managers from Martin High School and Columbia Central High School; former educators and staff of Columbia Central High School and Zion Christian Academy; Belmont Church Active Seniors for Christ; Monday Night Bible Study; and the TSSAA Old Timers Group.
