Master Sargent William P. "Stumpy" Harris, Sr., United States Air Force (ret), , died peacefully Sunday, October 1, 2006, at Maury Regional Hospital after a lengthy illness at age 83. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols concluding with a prayer service at 6:00 p.m. Additional services and interment will be in Prattville, Alabama later in the week. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandnichols.com. A native of Mt. Pleasant, he was the son of the late Maggie and Wallace Officer Harris. He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bessie and Lena, and three brothers, Woodrow, Johnny, and Ollie Harris. After serving in the U. S. Air Force for 26 years, in 1970 Mr. Harris joined the athletic department staff at Columbia Military Academy and continued at Columbia Academy until 1986 when he and Mrs. Harris moved to Prattville, Alabama to make their home until recently returning to Columbia. Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Flora Burdette Harris of Columbia; daughter, Brenda Tune of Nashville; sons, William Harris, Jr. and Robert Harris of Columbia; grandson, Buck Harris of Columbia; and sister, Jessie Stevenson of Georgia.
