MR. ELLIS LOVETT Mr. William Ellis Lovett, 80, retired employee of Kroger and self-employed retail sales and resident of Shenandoah Drive, died Sunday, January 4, 2004, at Maury Regional Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted at 10:00 A.M. Thursday at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Glenn Alexander officiating. Burial will be in Jones Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. The family will visit with friends Wednesday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Notes of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.oakesandnichols.com. The Maury County native was the son of the late Willie Elsworth Lovett and Evie Leona Hargrove Lovett. Mr. Lovett served in the U. S. Navy during World War II and was a member of Herbert Griffin American Legion Post 19. He was a member of the Spring Hill Church of Christ. Survivors include his wife of sixty-one years, Evelyn Thurman Lovett of Columbia; one daughter, Julia Ann (Earl) Pettus of Columbia; one son, William E. "Eddy" (Donna) Lovett of Columbia; six sisters, Violet (Don) Miller of New York; Madeline Brown of Spring Hill; Angline (Valton) Martin and Martha (Robert) Osborne, both of Lewisburg; Shirley (Charles) Rankin and June (Tom) Bills, both of Columbia; one brother, Leonard (Alva) Lovett of Columbia; two grandchildren, Heather Lovett and Merri Carte; and seven great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one brother Louis A. Lovett and two grandchildren, Todd Caruthers and Deborah Haddock. Pallbearers will be Terry "DieHard" Davis, Ralph Saltz, Randy Lovett, W. L. Culberson, Mark Gandee, Joe Griffin, David Rankin, and Billy Chestnut. Honorary pallbearers will be Earl Pettus, Eugene Lovett, Roy Caruthers, Raymond Thurman, Karen Lovell, Jack Robertson, Mike Bryan, and nieces and nephews.
