Mr. William F. "Bill" Norton, 74, retired credit analyst with CSX Railroad and former resident of Columbia, died Wednesday, April 23, 2008 in Jacksonville, Florida. Funeral services will be conducted Monday at 12:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Frank Smith officiating. Burial will be in the Rose Hill Cemetery with military honors provided by Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 3:00 to 7:00 p.m at the funeral home. Memorials may be made to Oak Crest United Methodist Church, 5900 Ricker Road, Jacksonville, FL 32244. Mr. Norton was a 1952 graduate of Culleoka High School and served in the U. S. Army. Survivors include his wife, Barbara King Norton of Jacksonville; a daughter Karen (Mike) Logsdon of Louisville, KY; a son, John (Lynn) Norton of Jacksonville; grandchildren, Andrew Logsdon, Cody Logsdon, Alex Wayman and Zoe Lapointee; three sisters, Neva (Tom) Graves of Nashville; Mary Paul (Wendell) Lassiter of Lewisburg, Sara Gaines of Nashville and Gayle (Steve) Secrest of Columbia; two sisters-in-law, Jane Norton of Columbia and Shirley Wright of Waverly; a special niece, Phyliss (George) Simmons of Dickson; and several other nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Lloyd Norton and Bobby Norton. Family members will serve as pallbearers.
