Mr. William Thomas "Bill" Outlaw, 87, retired from Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company, died Friday, August 24, 2007 at The Meadows in Nashville. The family will begin visitation Sunday at 4:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols. Funeral services will be conducted at 6:00 p.m. with Rev. David Sawyer officiating. Graveside services will be Monday at 1:00 p.m. at Brownsville Memorial Gardens in Brownsville with full Masonic Rites conducted by the Ed Worsham Lodge #505 in Brownsville. Notes of sympathy may be sent to www.oakesandichols.The Haywood County native was the son of the late Dewey S. Outlaw and Mary Lou Thomas Outlaw. During World War II, he served as a flight engineer with the rank of Master Sergeant in the U. S. Army Air Corps. As a member of the 24th Bombardment Squadron, he flew numerous missions in the Pacific Theatre of Operation and was awarded, among others, the Air Medal with three oak leaf clusters and the Distinguished Flying Cross.He came to Columbia in 1956 with Tennessee Farmers Mutual Insurance Company. During that time he served as Claims Manager and later Fleet Manager for the Company.He was a member of West End Baptist Church, Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, and Ed Worsham Masonic Lodge #505 in Brownsville.He is survived by a daughter, Patty Outlaw of Nashville; a sister, Katherine Hooper of Brownsville; two brothers, Nathan Outlaw and Allen Outlaw, both of Brownsville; several nieces and nephews.Pallbearers are Harold Terry, Virgil Moore, Joe Ford, Vernon Murray, Joe Horne, Gary Montgomery, Ray Johnson, Cisco Duque, and Garnett Forcum.Special thanks is expressed to the staffs of Poplar Estates of Columbia and The Meadows of Nashville for the kind and loving care given in the last five years of his life.
