View Funeral WebcastMr. William Jennings (Bill) Scott, Jr., 64, long-time resident of Goodlettesville, died Thursday, March 5, 2009 after a long and courageous battle with leukemia and pulmonary fibrosis. Mr. Scott returned to Columbia last year to make his home and be near family due to his illness. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 p.m. at Oakes & Nichols with Rev. Pete Tackett and Rev. Rick Blevins officiating. Burial will be in Polk Memorial Gardens. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 Noon to service time at the funeral home. He was the son of the late William Jennings Scott, Sr. and Elda Briley Scott. As a child, he came to Maury County with his family to make their home and was a 1962 graduate of Columbia Central High School. He earned a B.S. Degree from Middle Tennessee State University. He was retired from Superior Trim in Old Hickory as production planner and was a former supervisor for Oscar Mayer Company in Goodlettesville. He served in the U. S. Navy during the Viet Nam War and was an avid outdoorsman and sports enthusiast. Survivors include his sister, Xylda Scott (Sid) Richey of Columbia; his niece, Jacqueline Taylor (Lance) Warren of Columbia; and great-nieces, Briley Marie Warren and Lindsey Brooke Warren of Columbia. He was preceded in death by his step-mother, Bennie Sue Scott. Active pallbearers are Jim Dattilo, Lance Warren, Butch Duty, Craig Scaling, Jeff Condit, Leon Buggs, and Mike Stockton. Honorary pallbearers include Carol Richardson Dattilo, Vicki Smith, Dennis Webb, Roger Martin, Jerry Sacchinelli, Zak Amphone, Jeff Coleman, Charles Crutchfield, Aaron Prince, and the staff of Alterra Sterling House.
