View Funeral WebcastWillis Blocker, 88, born June 19, 1928, was the 8th child of Ocy Alvin and Nena Grace Bishop Blocker, passed away on Saturday, August 20, 2016 at Maury Regional Medical Center. Funeral services will be conducted Tuesday at 2:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Joe Macer officiating. Burial will follow in Morrow Cemetery with military honors provided by the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19. The family will visit with friends Monday from 4:00 - 8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. The family suggests memorials to Morrow Cemetery, c/o Linda Dunn, 1628 Hayes Denton Road, Columbia, TN 38401. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com. When the Korean War started Willis' twin brother, Willard, was drafted into the Army. Unwilling to be separated, Willis joined the Army with the stipulation that the "Blocker Brothers" would not be separated and could serve together. During the war they served as medics and medical dispensers visiting North Korea, South Korea, Japan, and the island of Koje-do. After returning to the United States, they returned home to Love Branch Road in Hampshire, TN, where they farmed the land. Tobacco was the crop of choice. Willis was a long-time member of South Point Church of Christ. He was also a member of the Herbert Griffin American Legion Post #19, VFW, and DAV.Survivors include his twin brother, Willard Blocker of Hampshire; sister, Virginia Clay of Michigan; sisters-in-law, Faye Blocker of Columbia, and Mary Allie Blocker of Hampshire; and four generations of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by siblings, Ella Brown Thomason, Gladys Baxter, Henry Blocker, Wesley Blocker, Clarice Bradley, Richard Blocker, and Annie Mai Blocker. Active pallbearers will be Thomas Runions, Bobby Runions, Alvin Blocker, Pete Blocker, Ricky Dunn, John Dotson, Douglas Clay, Barry Clay, Todd Baxter, James Patterson, and Paul Corvin. Honorary pallbearers include Tommy Dunn, Ray Dotson, Bryan Dunn, Gene Ray Baxter, Randy Baxter, James Lewis Cothron, Comer Brewer, Bart Kelley, Tim Farris, Walker Farris, Woody Escue, David Morrow, Steve Morrow, David Kincade, Tommy Carroll, Havill Himes, Clifton Himes, members of South Point Church of Christ, DAV, VFW, and the Herbert Griffin American Post #19.
