Zack Choate Hickman, 96, died Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at his residence in Franklin surrounded by his loving family.Funeral services will be conducted Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend David Sawyer officiating. Burial will follow in Wilkes Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Friday from 5:00 -8:00 P.M. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended online at www.oakesandnichols.com.Born March 4, 1920 in Culleoka, TN, he was the son of the late John Gilbreath Hickman and Gladys Hartland Choate Hickman. He graduated from Spring Hill High School in 1938 and attended Columbia Business College. He retired from M.P. Brothers Company in Nashville with over 50 years of service as a bookkeeper. Mr. Hickman was inducted into the Wheelchair Basketball Hall of Fame in 1992 after numerous years of playing wheelchair basketball with the Nashville Wheelcats. He loved music, enjoyed playing the piano, and played the guitar with the Over the Hill Gang. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather. There was always a smile on his face and love in his heart. Mr. Hickman was of Baptist faith. Survivors include his wife of 74 years, Elizabeth L. Martin Hickman of Franklin; son, James D. "Don" (Malinda) Hickman of Spring Hill; daughters, Carolyn (Jim) Pennington of Brentwood, Pam (Sam) Feazell of Southlake, TX, Patricia (Joe) Allen of Bowling Green, KY; eight grandchildren; and eleven great grandchildren.In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Ada Maude Hickman Capps. Active pallbearers will be Chris Pennington, Wesley Allen, Matthew Allen, Zack French, Sam Feazell, Jim Pennington, and Joe Allen.
