View Video Tribute View Funeral Webcast Zula Elizabeth McClain, 80, died Thursday, April 4, 2019, at her residence on West Fork Road in the Mt. Joy Community. Funeral services will be conducted Sunday at 3:00 P.M. at Oakes & Nichols Funeral Home with Reverend Mark King officiating. Burial will follow in McClain Cemetery. The family will visit with friends Sunday from 12:00 P.M. until service time at the funeral home. Born September 30, 1938, in Lewis County, she was the daughter of the late Felix Martin McClain and the late Minnie Johnson McClain. She was a 1956 graduate of Hay Long High School, for a while, she worked at Red Stone Arsenal in Huntsville, Alabama. After moving back to Maury County, she worked for Parks-Harris and retired from the Department of Safety. After retirement, she went to work for the General Sessions Part 2 in Mt. Pleasant. Zula loved socializing, music, dancing, traveling the world with friends, and was well known for her outgoing personality, fancy clothes, and flashy jewelry. She was a lifelong member of Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church, former treasurer, and one of the oldest living members. Survivors include her sister, Pat McClain LeDoux of Woodbury; brother, Jimmy (Marie) McClain of the Mt. Joy Community; nieces and nephews, Phyllis Irwin, Priscilla Adams, Debbie Allen, Lori Waugh, Bill McClain, Sherry Scheitel, Emily Trader, Jon McClain, Leilani Spigolon, and Jennifer Wilson; eighteen great nieces and nephews; fourteen great great nieces and nephews; three great great great nieces; and several close friends. She was preceded in death by an infant son, Baby Boy Bishop; sisters, Elaine McClain Chirtel, Carmen McClain Jones; brothers, Malcolm McClain, Mack McClain, Forrest “Tidlem” McClain; and former husband, Bobby Bishop. Active pallbearers will be Jon McClain, Bill McClain, Mickey Allen, Mike Waugh, Mike Irwin, Anthony Irwin, Van Irwin, and Billy Bolton. Honorary pallbearers include Hay Long High School Class of 1956 and Elders of Mt. Joy Cumberland Presbyterian Church.
